Driving in Boston and Massachusetts—and everywhere! —can certainly be dangerous. And it’s not often that a morning commute is accident-free. While some accidents are minor in nature, many automobile accidents can result in serious injury and even death. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, motor vehicle traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the US, with more than 30,000 fatalities per year.

Every day, nearly 30 people die in an auto accident involving an alcohol-impaired driver, the equivalent of one death every 51 minutes. More often than not, auto accidents are the result of driver negligence. In addition to driving under the influence (DUI), driver negligence includes driver fatigue and reckless driving. But accidents can also be due to defective automobiles—most commonly, defective brakes or tires. Whatever the cause of the accident, serious personal injury can result—from burns, to brain injury, to paralysis, and even death.
